I seek your support for full implementation of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program by the year 2012, with two-yearly screening for everyone over 50 years of age. I am deeply concerned that 5 million Australians are currently missing out on a test which could save their life. While I understand that the Government has made an open-ended commitment to fully implement the program, implementation delays will result in unnecessary bowel cancer death and morbidity. I urge you to pressure the Government to commit in the 2010–11 budget to an expansion of the program by 2012 – the tenth anniversary of the introduction of pilot programs that demonstrated the program’s effectiveness. Please confirm you have received my letter/email and advise what action you will be taking to support full implementation of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program. Please get behind bowel screening and help save 30 lives a week.
