Ian's story

I am 78 with no obvious symptoms of bowel cancer. Because of publicity I had an FOBT late last year which showed blood in one sample. A colonoscopy revealed a large polyp associated with cancer in an early stage. Surgery in early January to remove the affected bowel was successful, I did not need chemotherapy, and am now back to good health. Thank God I had the test and I shudder to think what would have been the situation if I had waited until obvious symptoms developed.

We asked Australians affected by bowel cancer to share their experience. Many of the stories they shared have been featured in our campaign album, copies of which have been sent to every Member of Parliament across Australia.
