Rose's story
Earlier this year I was diagnosed with bowel cancer and it was a great shock to me because I felt fit and healthy. My symptoms were minor and could have been easily dismissed by both myself and my GP. I am grateful for her insistence that I see a Specialist. I am grateful for the thorough investigation he conducted and grateful to the surgeon who successfully removed the tumour. I am grateful that it was found early and was totally removed by the surgery. I am 52 years old.
We asked Australians affected by bowel cancer to share their experience. Many of the stories they shared have been featured in our campaign album, copies of which have been sent to every Member of Parliament across Australia. By sharing your experience you can help Cancer Council raise awareness of bowel cancer and the importance of free screening for everyone over 50.
We are keen to hear from anyone who has been affected directly or indirectly by bowel cancer. This can include patients, friends, family, carers and health professionals.
